ANOINTING OF THE SICK- The sacrament has as its purpose to grant a special grace on the Christian experiencing the natural difficulties of a grave illness or old age. It is a way to celebrate the healing power of the Risen Lord for those among us who are sick or dying.

A communal Mass of Healing that includes the Sacrament of Anointing is celebrated once a year. The sacrament is also celebrated with individuals upon request.

Fr. Gabriel may be called at any time day or night for the Sacrament of the sick. Furthermore, Father will be happy to visit the Sick with Holy Communion upon request. Contact Fr. Tom McDermott and/or Fr. David Schatz, 563-583-9117, for more information on Anointing of the Sick.

If you or a family member is ill, shut-in, or in a nursing home and would like to receive Holy Communion, please contact the Parish Office at (563) 583-9117.

BAPTISM is the basic Sacrament of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit, and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. With the new birth through water and the word we are freed from sin and regenerated as sons of God.

At St. Columbkille, families choosing to baptize their infant are invited to attend a Baptism Preparation Class. Contact Fr. Tom McDermott and/or Fr. David Schatz for more information on Baptism, 563-583-9117.

CONFIRMATION is a serious and personal decision to follow Christ through the Roman Catholic Church. The baptized are more perfectly bound to the Church because it is the sacrament that gives the Holy Spirit and perfects Baptismal grace.

In addition to participation in the designated events and activities, Confirmation Candidates will also need to find a sponsor and complete all the requirements.  Guidelines for these will be handed out at Confirmation Orientation

Parents cannot be sponsors for their own children.

Other Requirements and Considerations

  • The Confirmation Information form should be filled out and handed in to St. Columbkille. Al Baptismal certificates should be turned in to Alive, even if you were Baptized at St. Columbkille.
  • Please research and pick a Saint's name.  Your Saint's name will be written on a sheet of paper, and reads by the Archbishop.  Example: "Francis, be sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit."

Requirements must be met before you may be confirmed.
